Photographic project "Inside Out" shows different people of Syros experiencing a "private and intimate" moment in open spaces of the island. How authentic are we beyond the boundaries of "intimate home"? How much of public space do we allow to become part of our intimacy, part of our everyday history?
This photographic work developed in six [6] stories with different main characters, in different parts of Ermoupolis
“The Sleeping Man”
A handsome young man, wearing pajamas, socks and holding his pillow, sleeps wherever he feels is his Home; probably anywhere in Ermoupolis. Today, he chooses to sleep on the bar of a cafeteria. As photographer Maria Merkou notes, «The moment of sleep fully reflects α sense of ”Home” intimacy. It leaves no room for pretexts and lying, a strictly personal and yet common experience».

“Once upon a time in Ermoupoli”
Four young sailors have fun drinking wine, surrounded by the ruins of a historic and magnificent building near Ermoupolis, where Ladopoulos factory was once housed. Location does not matter. Company is important: «We enjoy being together, drinking wine, having a good time».

“On the ironing”
The most ideal place for ironing is in front of Ermoupolis Town Hall on the historic Miaouli Square. Children around, carefree continue to play football.

A young couple enjoy love and companionship in their home living room, located on the sidewalk of unique neighborhood “Vaporia” in Ermoupolis, just before sunset (Vaporia = ships).
