“Blue and Black”

"The start of the video is deliberately disorientating and confusing, but gradually meaning and pathos emerges. The texts are overlaid onto a view of the sea shot at Kini. The sea appears upside down. The sea is a metaphor for the passage of time and the power and indifference of the natural world. We hear the rhythmic pounding of the waves but also the incidental sounds of the beach. While someone experiences life ending events, the trivial events of daily life continue, indifferent to a deeper reality"

David Hawkins is a British artist based in Berlin and Syros.
As a student at Goldsmiths College (long before Twitter) he became influenced by the work of the American artist Jenny Holzer. In his degree show I exhibited short ambiguous shory texts derived from an advertising campaign on the London Underground but displayed out of context.

Video art “Blue and Black” was presented as video mapping and part of site-specific installation "Europass" on the withdrawn / anchored ships in the port of Elefsina at «Aisxylia 2016» festival
