Eye’s Walk Digital & NGO Accept that advocates for the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people in Romania

In 2020 Eye’s Walk Digital Festival was a step towards a meeting with gender identities for the local community of Syros, the visitors and the audience of the festival in public space. Various events took place in several parts of the city:

  • In the heart of its commercial life, around the Apollo Theater.
  • On the walking-tour to the old brothels of Ermoupolis.
  • In the courtyard of the Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary.

Queer and non-queer artists, along with activists from the Romanian LGBTQI organization “Accept”, united into a community with the people that attended the event. Young heterosexual and homosexual couples, residents of Ermoupolis of all ages and social classes, artists, thinkers, activists, tourists, experienced Queer aesthetics and LOATKI history as an open experience for all.

HermAphrodite" was supporting and participating in the project "We Are Here and Everywhere in the Balkans", a research of history and culture of LGBTQI+ communities in the Balkans. The project was awarded and funded by the Cultural Management Academy Funds 2019 & Goethe Institut, in collaboration with NGO ACCEPT / Romania.

Participating artists:
Ermina Apostolaki, Angelina Voskopoulou, Thomas Diafas, Athina Kanellopoulou, Katerina Goti- Viscosity (Greece),Andrew Duggan (Ireland), Florin Buhuceanu (Romania)-who also represented our partner “Accept Organisation” on the island of Syros during the 3 day event
